Why Is the Sedona Meditation Retreat So Extraordinary?

Sedona Mago Retreat Is Sedona Plus

Just 16 miles southwest of Sedona, in the midst of the Coconino National Forest, lies the 160-acre Sedona Mago Retreat. This blooming desert land, surrounded by red rocks, Native American ruins, and mountains, has been a place of healing and transformation for over 40 years. Named for Mago, which means ancient mother in Asian cultures, this beautiful solitary land has a magical quality to unfold our innermost stories. That’s why people say Mago Retreat is Sedona Plus. In fact, the immense power of this land plays a significant role in the program.

Meditation Is an Integral Part of the Program

Everyone knows that meditation works. It’s a proven method to leave a lasting and positive impact on your mind, body, and spirit. If you have never tried it before, let us assure you that it’s not just for yogis who twist their bodies into pretzel shapes. Meditation is for everyone! If you are a dedicated meditator, you will be amazed at how much your retreat experiences can be deepened through meditation.

All Sessions Are Deeply Experiential

Our experienced trainers are expert guides in helping you to look within and reflect on what it is you want to release, what you wish to bring into your life, and how to listen to your true voice. Trainers offer simple techniques to help you focus inward and to be mindful during the experience. Sessions include indoor guided meditation, outdoor meditation at vortex sites, and talks on the principles of meditation that can deepen your awareness and enhance your spiritual awakening.

Group Sessions and Individual Reflection Are Balanced

Our Sedona Meditation Retreat offers opportunities to meditate and reflect individually as well as with a group. Private contemplation helps you to explore your inner landscape more deeply. Group sessions encourage you to consider new perspectives, appreciate a feeling of community, and just have some fun. The retreat limits the number of participants to a maximum of ten people for each retreat to ensure ample assistance for all. Your important individual needs will be honored and met.

A Sample of Your 4-Day Itinerary

After your 3 p.m. check-in, a hearty and delicious pesco-vegetarian style dinner awaits you. That evening, enjoy an introductory session that will assist you in benefitting from the program.

Evening Session: Introduction to Meditation

Welcome to Sedona! In the first session, you will understand how meditation can greatly deepen your retreat experience and what makes for an effective meditation. Most importantly, you will learn about the four powerful tools that enable you to anchor your awareness to the present moment and ground your meditation experience: breathing, positivity, tapping to focus, and moving to release.

Begin your retreat by exploring the energy within. Surrounded by the serenity of Sedona Mago Retreat, shut off the outside world and explore your inner landscape. With today’s meditations and exercises, ground yourself where you are. Early risers enjoy an optional sunrise meditation before breakfast.

Morning Sessions: On-Site Nature Meditation at Sedona Mago Retreat

You take beautiful meditative walks in Sedona Mago Retreat’s most beloved places, including the famed Healing Garden. There are no ringing cell phones and no honking horns.  Instead, all that you hear are rippling birdsongs and gentle breezes that cradle you in a cocoon of serenity and envelop you with the fragrant mist of solitude. In this quietude, you are able to look within and reflect on what it is you want to let go, what you wish to bring into your life, and how to listen to your true voice.

Afternoon Sessions:  Chakra Healing Exercise

Chakras are power spots in our body as vortexes are the power spots of the Earth.  Here you will learn about your body’s energy system and refresh your energy as your connection to your energy body deepens. Feeling energy gives your meditation a more tangible texture and deepens its creative aspects. The greatest benefits from this session are learning to open, activate, and balance all your chakras with a very simple method that is unique to our Sedona Meditation Retreat.

Today you will leave Sedona Mago Retreat and tour famous vortexes in Sedona. Let their healing effects transform you as you connect to the unique energy of each location in a guided meditation. You will have free time in the historic district of Uptown Sedona to have lunch on your own in between the on-site meditations.

Morning Session: Meditation at Cathedral Rock

Referred to as Sun God by the Native Americans, Cathedral Rock is one of the iconic vortex sites of Sedona. The energies here are known to help release negative emotions or memories. You walk on the bank of the Oak Creek, quietly sit by the water or under an aged tree, and open your heart to access earth energy as well as the deeper knowledge within you.

Afternoon Session: Meditation at Mago Castle

Mago Castle not only offers a 360-degree view of the breathtaking landscape, but is also surrounded by three of the four major Sedona vortexes: Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, and Airport Mesa. From this unparalleled location, you will be able to experience your profound connection to the earth. On your way back to Sedona Mago Retreat, you will stop by Bell Rock and enjoy an energy boost from its electrifying vortex energy.

Back at Sedona Mago Retreat, continue to open to the love and support nature provides. Reflect on what you have gained, and plan on how your life will be different as a result. The final session ends before lunch time.

Early Morning Session: Sunrise Meditation

It’s a transformative experience that words can hardly express when you observe the sun slowly peeking up over the horizon amid the stunning red rocks of Sedona. The play of light and shadow is magnificent, and your heart and soul are touched as you become part of a scene that has played out over and over again throughout millennia of earth’s existence. It’s one of the most sacred moments of the Sedona Meditation Retreat.

Morning Session: How to Take It All Back Home

It doesn’t seem possible, but four days have already passed. Now is the time to reflect on what Sedona has unfolded for you, how you have responded and, very importantly, how to learn to take it all back home. You have become more mindful of your thoughts, emotions, and actions. You smile more and look forward to what the moment has to offer.  Now it’s time to return to your place in the world with more confidence and a renewed passion for your life.

One Important Realization

After four days of the Sedona Meditation Retreat, you realize that the real sacred space is actually not anywhere on the soil of red rocks. Rather, it is in your soul, the part of you that is eternal and unchanging. If you feel that your heart has been touched in Sedona, it is because that part of you has been touched—your perfect, immutable soul.

Your task on your spiritual quest is to uncover that part of yourself and to let it shine in the world. Our sacred spaces are simply a reflection of that which already lies inside of us. Here in Sedona, Mother Earth magically embraces us to enter the sacred place of our heart.

Who Will Guide Your Experience?

Ilchi-Lee_The-Call-of-Sedona_Sayong-KimThe Sedona Meditation Retreat is led by Sayong Kim, the COO of Sedona Mago Retreat since 2002. Earlier in life, Sayong developed sciatic neuralgia and suffered with back pain for over ten years. While various Western and Eastern healing modalities helped, they could not cure his pain. He started practicing Dahn Yoga in South Korea, (now called Body & Brain Yoga), and his back healed in less than three months. This changed the course of his life. He quit the Ph.D. course he was enrolled in and set out to become an instructor of the Tao Healing Practice. Sayong came to Sedona Mago Retreat for the first time in 1996. He worked for Body & Brain Yoga as a program trainer in Phoenix before becoming COO of Sedona Mago Retreat. Sayong’s goal is to share Tao principles and practices and develop Sedona Mago Retreat into the top retreat center in the country.

Find Out What People Are Saying

We’ve seen life changing transformations happen to so many people at the Sedona Meditation Retreat that we must again say we would love to see it happen for you! Here are  powerful examples of the changes people have experienced through the Sedona Meditation Retreat.

This was the best vacation of my life!

“As a meditator and owner of a busy, energy-based chiropractic practice, I wanted to be among like-minded people, deepen my meditation techniques, and find a greater inner peace that would ultimately benefit my service to all . . . The techniques that Genia taught me helped me to reset my system and tap into that inner peace as well as into some of my fears.  I learned how to release those fears, tap into my inner knowing, set boundaries, and nurture myself. My daily meditation routine has definitely been enhanced. Through those techniques, I can now instantly find inner peace whenever I feel stress during the day. For sure, I’m coming back, and this time I’m bringing my wife!”
– Dr. Brian Ruggiero, Connecticut

I’m not feeling stuck anymore.

“I was going through a difficult time, my life was in disarray, and the four days in Sedona helped me to leave much better off than when I had arrived. On the five-and-a-half hour drive home, all I could think about all the good things I had experienced over those past few days. The best part is I’m not feeling stuck anymore. I feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve also realized that I have a lot of positive qualities that I didn’t even realize were there.”
– Don Erlanger, Las Vegas, Nevada
